Man City will face Middlesbrough away in the FA Cup quarter-finals – should the Blues see off Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup 5th round replay.

The Blues have met Middlesbrough eight times in the competition with the Teessiders considered something of a bogey team in both league and cup.

The clubs met just two seasons ago in the FA Cup, with Boro winning 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

In 2010, City recorded a rare win at the Riverside Stadium, beating Boro 1-0 in the FA Cup third round.

In 1997, Boro triumphed 1-0 at Maine Road in the FA Cup 5tth round and in 1992, it was again Middlesbrough who won – this time 2-1 – in the FA Cup third round, having knocked the Blues out of the League Cup earlier that campaign.

In 1971/72. City were held 1-1 at Maine Road before losing the replay 2-1 at Ayresome Park.

The very first meeting between the two teams was at Hyde Road in 1904 when Boro held City to a 0-0 draw– before the Blues won the replay 3-1 on Teesside on the way to winning the FA Cup.

It won’t be lost on City fans that Boro held the Blues to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad earlier this season and of the 126 meetings, the teams are tied at 49 wins each with 28 draws in all competitions.

The FA Cup 5th round replay against Huddersfield is scheduled for 8pm on Tuesday 28 February. Ticket information.
