Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will miss the FA Cup fifth-round replay against Huddersfield on Wednesday.

The Belgian suffered a leg injury 10 days ago and hasn’t been named in a matchday squad since the game against Bournemouth earlier this month.

Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed in his press conference on Tuesday that the defender has failed to recover in time for the game against Huddersfield – but insists his condition is improving and says he will feature for the first team again soon.

“No, not tomorrow,” Guardiola said. “He is much better but not right. Soon - he is in the last part (of his recovery).”

Asked if Kompany will play a part in the remainder of the season, Guardiola said: “Yes, definitely.”

The Blues squad returned from a mid-season break in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, a trip Guardiola says gave his players the opportunity to unwind after a hectic period of games.

The players engaged in some warm-weather training during the excursion and Sheikh Mansour visited their training camp and met Guardiola.

The Catalan boss says it was a positive experience and believes the relationship between a manager and the Club’s owners is important.

“We were together in a different place so we found the sun and don’t think too much about football,” he said. “It was a short trip but it was nice. No injuries.

“With Khaldoon (Al Mubarak, the City chairman) we speak regularly,” he said.

“The last period he came often here but the other people we met for the first time, Sheikh Mansour. I was really impressed that he knew absolutely everything about us. It was nice to meet him and spend a few hours together.”

“He is so happy because he sees all the games and he sees the effort, he demands it. He knows we make absolutely everything, we fight until the end and it was nice because of course it is important for us to know the president so that’s why it was good.

“I had a good relations with almost all my owners in Barcelona and Bayern Munich, of course it is important to know them.

“They know, we know, all the managers and owners know that we are here because of the results. If the results are not good we are going to be replaced by another. I replaced another manager.

“It is important when we are together, both departments, the chairmen and managers and owners, we have the same objective, the same target.”
