Manchester City will face the winner of the tie between Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup but how much do we know about our potential opponents?

There will be a third round replay between Palace of the Premier League and Bolton of League One after they played out a goalless draw at the Trotters’ Macron Stadium on Saturday.

City will discover their opponents on Tuesday 17 January when the sides face each other again but until then, Pep Guardiola and his team must prepare for a trip to either club.

Crystal Palace

City have already made one trip to Selhurst Park this season with Yaya Toure scoring twice on his return to first team action to seal a victory against Alan Pardew’s men in November.

Pardew has left the Eagles since that match and been replaced by former England and Bolton manager Sam Allardyce.

Although Allardyce is yet to win after four matches in charge at Selhurst Park, the 62-year-old has a proven track record of guiding struggling Premier League sides to safety.

Palace have excellent recent history in the FA Cup too after reaching the final last season - on a run that saw beat them the likes of Southampton, Tottenham and Stoke City.

Jason Puncheon’s goal in the Wembley final took Manchester United to extra time but Jesse Lingard’s strike saw the tie over without the need for penalties.

Bolton

After suffering Premier League relegation in 2011/12 following eleven consecutive seasons in England’s top flight, there has been plenty of turbulence for City’s Greater Manchester neighbours.

Financial difficulties played a major role as the likes of Owen Coyle, Dougie Freedman and Neil Lennon all struggled with the Trotters before they were consigned to relegation from the Championship last season.

The arrival of Phil Parkinson at the Macron Stadium last summer has seen a change of atmosphere at the club and they now sit in an automatic promotion spot in League One.

A number of former Premier League players such as David Wheater, Darren Pratley and Jay Spearing are supported in the squad by promising youngsters Josh Vela and tricky forward Zach Clough.

The fourth round matches will take place on the weekend of January 28/29 and we’ll have all the build-up on mancity.com!
