New Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has chosen to wear the No. 33 shirt after formally completing his move from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Pep Guardiola on the phone - but he opted to stay at Palmeiras until the end of the Brazilian league season, which finished in November.

Palmeiras won the title with a game to spare – their first league success in 22 years – with Jesus scoring 12 goals and playing a starring role in their triumph.

He wore the No. 33 shirt throughout his time at Palmeiras and says he always wanted to wear it at City.

“I’ve asked for it,” he said in an exclusive interview with ManCity.com. “It’s the number I’ve been wearing since I turned professional, it’s a number I ended up with and I really liked, and I intend to wear it for many years.

“I told the club, I asked if the number 33 was available, they said yes, and so I chose it.”

Jesus arrives with a huge reputation having already established himself as a regular in the Brazil national side.

He has scored five goals in six matches at international level, including two on his debut against Ecuador.

Brazil have won all six games he’s played and are top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group for Russia 2018.

But Jesus has plenty left to achieve in the game and he believes he can add to his already impressive array of accolades at City.

“My dream in a City shirt is to win titles, to be happy and to make all Manchester’s fans happy too,” he said. “I’ve come here to help and to win titles.

“I want to win titles and Manchester City is a club that is used to winning.”
