Yaya Toure returns for City who will look to bounce back quickly from the midweek loss to Monaco.

The Ivorian played no part in Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Monaco but resumes his place in the starting XI this afternoon.

Pep Guardiola makes two changes, with Nicolas Otamendi also recalled.

Possible formation and tactics

City will be well aware of Liverpool’s attacking threat and though Daniel Sturridge will miss out, they will look to play a high press and force the Blues into early errors.

The Reds are definitely without captain Jordan Henderson so James Milner is likely to skipper the visitors in his absence.Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren make the bench.

No right-back?

With Pablo Zabaleta injured and Bacary Sagna on the bench, will Fernandinho add yet another position to his repertoire?

If he does, City could play 4-1-4-1, but if not, it could be that the Blues play with three at the back and pack the midfield in a 3-5-2 (sort of) formation. It’s going to be hard to second-guess until the match actually begins!
