It’s never easy to go back to a ground you’ve already won handsomely at the same season.
The Blues gave one of their best displays of the campaign against the Hammers in the FA Cup third-round at the London Stadium, cruising to a 5-0 win.
A month later, City were back for the Premier League clash and the hosts were looking for revenge.
What had the hosts learned? What would they do differently? Ultimately, it didn’t matter – City were again imperious, carving the home side apart on a pitch that clearly suits Pep Guardiola’s men.
Again, the Blues went into the break 3-0 up and Gabriel Jesus also scored his first goal for the Club.
When Yaya Toure made it 4-0 before the hour-mark, it looked as though City might actually score more goals than they had a month before – but as it was, the Blues declared at four.
A terrific display with easy-on-the-eye, flowing football, this was a snapshot of how Pep envisages his side playing every week.

City had seen off Stoke twice in the U18 Premier League but this was supposed to be different.
Stoke, like City, move several U23s stars down to U18 level for the FA Youth Cup and much of the talk beforehand was about the threats the Potters could pose.
Instead, City set about picking apart the visitors and a Lukas Nmecha hat-trick plus strikes from Brahim Diaz, Phil Foden and Demeaco Duhaney made for an incredible night at the Academy Stadium in front of a crowd of more than 3,000.
City head to Stoke for a second leg that many consider obsolete next week but they won’t be taking it lightly ahead of what Lee Carsley and his staff hope will be a third consecutive final with Chelsea.

How can it be anything other than the 5-3 win over Monaco last month?
Guardiola has set City up to attack and they’re undoubtedly one of the most open, exciting sides in Europe – but so are Monaco, who have outscored every other team on the continent this season.
There was very little focus on defending. This was two sets of players who wanted to attack and they produced a breathless 90 minutes that will live long in the memory of those who witnessed it.
Monaco appeared to be in the driving seat when they went 3-2 up – but three goals in an incredible last 20 minutes saw City turn the game around.
Open, frantic, exciting – this game was not only the best we’ve seen this year, it was probably the finest the Etihad has hosted.

If I’d have known what would unfold, I may have given it a second thought!
Apparently, City’s Champions League triumph over Monaco was “great for the neutral”. Fair enough, but spare a thought for the journalists who – pressured by deadlines – were forced to pen a hasty re-write… several times!
It isn’t often you witness an eight-goal thriller and the proverbial pendulum swung to and fro so many times, it was difficult to keep up.
Trailing on home turf and having conceded three away goals, the Blues looked dead and buried – but produced a stunning late comeback to turn the game on its head and hand themselves a 5-3 advantage to take into the second leg.
Of course, it wouldn’t be enough… but that should not detract from this incident-packed, breathless clash which left fans (and yes, journalists) hungry for more.
