Pep Guardiola has revealed the young midfielder will not be loaned out during the January transfer window because he expects him to be involved in the Manchester City first team in the second half of the season.
Seventeen-year-old Foden has returned to training at the City Football Academy after his eye-catching exploits at the FIFA U17 World Cup with England, where he scored twice in the final and was named player of the tournament.
“He is part of the group and is training with us every day so when he is involved with us he is not with the second team,” explained the Catalan boss.
“He won’t move this season. No loan in January because we feel we are going to need him and maybe he is going to play.
“We feel he has the skills needed and hopefully he can help us in the future to achieve what we want.”
Foden added to his personal trophy haul last week when he picked up the North West Football Rising Star award.
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for the teenager, who’s been catapulted to the forefront of the country’s footballing attentions, but the manager had a note of caution for those already labelling the Academy graduate as a star.
“Before a rising star he is a rising player. A good player and afterwards he becomes a star.
“He deserved his award. He was the best player at the U17 World Cup.”
