City’s record stretched to 18 successive wins with the 2-1 victory over Huddersfield and to face Southampton.
With records tumbling and new milestones being set seemingly every game, it would be easy to get carried away.
Yet for the skipper, each win serves only as motivation to improve for the next match.
“Momentum is key,” he said.
“It’s about pushing the boundaries in each and every moment of every game and that’s not easy.
“Winning gives us a feeling that we know what we’re about and gives us even more hunger to go into the next game and get the result that we want.”
The Club record equalling eleventh consecutive Premier League victory over the West Yorkshire outfit maintained City’s eight-point lead at the top of the table.
And while the sparkling early season form has, in some quarters of the media, sparked talk the Blues will be celebrating come May, Kompany reiterated that the Saints arrival at the Etihad and nothing else, is at the forefront of the squad’s thoughts.
“It’s a cliché, but it really is about each individual game,” explained the 31-year-old.
“What will happen, will happen, but it’s much too early to talk about the title.
“What this run has given us is the hunger to do well in the next game and we’re only thinking about Southampton and how we’re going to handle that.”
As City have marched to the Premier League summit, there has been no shortage of eye-catching individual displays, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling earning praise for their efforts.
Winning a penalty and netting the winner, it was the latter who proved pivotal against Huddersfield and Kompany is pleased that the team’s work ethic is allowing individuals to shine.
“We need the likes of Raheem and Leroy’s movement, but we also need the likes of Kevin and David [Silva] to create the passes.
“We need our strikers to be strong and retain the ball and at the back we need to prevent the other team from gaining momentum.
“All of these things have made for a strong team and it’s allowing individuals to thrive.”
