John Edwards: John Stones
City’s attacking displays, have quite rightly generated praise this month.
But one goal conceded in seven games tells you everything you need to know about how impressive they’ve been at the other end of the pitch.
John Stones has been central to this and his performances in September have evidenced that he is growing in confidence and in the maturity of his play.
Combining steel with the style for which he is famed, the 23-year-old has been everything you’d want from the modern centre-half.
At Stamford Bridge – the toughest test of the month – he had, by his own admission, his finest game in the Blue shirt and a brace in Rotterdam saw him make the kind of impact that sets defenders apart.
Our goal-getters are understandably the headline makers, but Stones has been one of the Blues’ most assured and consistent performers of late.
Rob Pollard: Kevin De Bruyne
Again, another tough choice given City’s form during September, but Kevin De Bruyne was, for me, the stand-out player.
He’s operating in a deeper midfield role this season, one that sees him conduct City’s play from just in front of the back four, with additional pressure to protect the defence.
He’s adapted superbly. The Belgian has a wonderful range of passing - an ability to play perfectly-weighted balls that rip defences apart, seemingly at will.
He scored the opener in the win over Shakhtar and the winner in City’s brilliant win away at Chelsea, a ferocious left-footed strike from outside the area that sealed three vital points and laid down a marker to the rest of the Premier League.
But perhaps the moment that best sums up his contribution was his through-ball for Sergio Aguero’s goal against Liverpool; a defence-splitting pass of the highest order.
Perhaps the best player currently operating in the English top flight.
David Clayton: Sergio Aguero
With six goals and three assists from just six matches during September, even by Sergio Aguero’s lofty standards September was a special month.
Soon to be crowned our greatest ever striker, it is such as shame Kun’s devastating form has been interrupted by a car accident, but the fact he escaped with relatively minor injuries is a blessing.
Of his performances last month, his hat-trick against Watford was a classic treble in every sense of the word - a superb header, a tap-in and a wonderful individual effort.
October or November will see Sergio officially take his place at the top of our all-time strikers list and he is already assured the status of Club legend for all that’s gone before.
A magnificent contribution from one of the best players in the world.
