City temporarily moved to the top of the Premier League table after goals from Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus (2) and Leroy Sane (2) extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
And afterwards, the 26-year-old praised the speed of City’s passing, which he felt was key in securing three points against a side he rates as one of the best in the Premier League.
“Very important,” he said of the win. “We faced a very difficult team.
“Obviously, having a player being sent off helped, but the merit of this win is ours.
“We managed to move the ball very quickly, and we found ways to get past them, which was important.”
The Brazilian, signed in the summer from Real Madrid, operated in both defence and midfield during the win and impressed throughout.
He’s now featured in every game this season, playing in a variety of different roles, including full-back, centre-back and central-midfield.
He believes he is settling well at City and says the emphatic win over Liverpool was the perfect preparation for Wednesday’s Champions League game at Feyenoord.
“I am very happy!” he said. “When we play at this level you really haven’t got a lot of time to adapt, but I am feeling at home and I just hope to carry on improving more and more.”
“We will have a tough and demanding game in the Champions League, so having won against a great team like we did today will give us strength and confidence for the next game.”
