In breaking the deadlock with his 21st minute strike, the Argentine striker became the Premier League’s all-time leading non-European scorer.
It was Kun’s 124th league goal since he joined City from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and meant that he overtook Dwight Yorke in the all-time English record books.
Remarkably, the goal was also the sixth successive time Aguero has scored at home to Liverpool in the Premier League and also made him the Premier League’s 15th highest scorer overall, taking him just one behind former Arsenal and City star Nicolas Anelka and two short of Robbie Keane’s tally.
And Aguero’s latest goal means he is now just six goals behind City’s current all-time leading goalscorer Eric Brook.
Given the way Kun has started the new season – he has already scored in two out of City’s four league games to date – few would bet against the 29-year-old creating another piece of history sooner rather than later to add to his incredible City career statistics.
