And the Belgian has called on the players and fans to give everything they have when Liverpool visit the Etihad on Thursday in what looks set to be a crucial game in this season’s title race.
The win at St. Mary’s moves us back into second place in the Premier League, seven points adrift of the Merseysiders after a run of three defeats in four league matches.
And Kompany says he was proud of the team’s mentality and desire after such a difficult period.

“The performance was excellent we looked aggressive in retrieving the ball,” he said.
“We shouldn’t focus too much on points at the moment, we know if we can play to our potential we know we are a good team.
“Our pride has been hurt over the last few weeks but we have everything to play for and it depends on us.
“[Liverpool] is one of those key games you live for. Every living soul that comes into the stadium on Thursday has to be ready to fight and give it to them, and we should be able to pull everything out of the locker for that game.”
Raheem Sterling, who was superb throughout, echoed Kompany’s sentiments, saying: ”Our last two results were difficult to take and I thought we bounced back brilliantly today.
“The last three games we have started well and scored the opening goal, and then we have been sloppy, but our mentality was good today and we showed a good fighting spirit.”
