The City keeper has received plaudits throughout the campaign for his excellent distribution and calmness under pressure.
The 24-year-old conceded more goals in one game against Liverpool than he had in his previous seven Premier League matches, but Bernardo says the young Brazilian won’t let last Sunday’s set-back faze him and will be his normal, confident best against Newcastle at the weekend.
“I think everybody realises Ederson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” said Bernardo.
“With his hands, with his feet… he is so calm and so good at what he does.
“He is the perfect goalkeeper for how our team plays – he is like another outfield player for us because the keeper has to be able to play with his feet and he’s been doing an amazing job for us. “
The Portuguese playmaker has known Ederson since 2009 from the time the pair were at juniors at Benfica together.
“I never actually played alongside him at Benfica or shared a dressing room with him because he was a year older and I was playing with younger players,” he said.
“But we were close to each other, even if we were training in different groups and I’ve known him since I was about 14.
“It’s so good to have a goalkeeper like him behind you because it makes you feel safe and secure. I think he probably one of the very best in the world.”
