Leroy Sane admitted that Manchester City were disappointed to have finally surrendered their incredible unbeaten Premier League record following the Blues' 4-3 defeat at Liverpool.

However, the German winger felt the Blues showed their fighting spirit and depth of character in launching a dramatic late fightback at Anfield before being edged out in a remarkable seven-goal encounter.

Sané netted a superb first-half goal for Pep Guardiola‘s men with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan also on target for City.

But goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah proved decisive for Jurgen Klopp’s side with City finally being beaten in the league for the first time since a loss at Chelsea last April.

“I think it was an incredible game for the fans who saw it.  There were many goals and chances but for us it was not the best day,” Leroy reflected.

“There was a period in the second half when we made a lot of mistakes but I think we showed good character near the end.

“Even if the other team is one or two goals in front we always try to score and change the game.

“Everyone is obviously disappointed that we weren’t able to win as it is a long time since City have lost won here at Liverpool.”
