Pep Guardiola sounded a special salute to his Manchester City players after his side opened up a 15-point gap at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win over West Brom.

City also reached the 100-goal mark for the season after recording a 12th successive Premier League home victory.

A first-half strike from Fernandinho was followed by second-half efforts from Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero at the Etihad.

City dominated from start to finish and afterwards the Blues’ boss admitted he had been left purring with admiration at the way the players performed.

“When you see the number (of goals this season) you think it can’t be possible,” said Pep.

“But we create so many. It’s a joy to see.. But we have one of the toughest away games next against Burnley. Then we have a bit more space to recover players.

“We still have to win eight games to be champions of the Premier League and we are going to try and win the next one in two days and a half.”

Pep also had words of praise for new signing Aymeric Laporte who made his City debut just a day after the French defender’s arrival from Athletic Bilbao

The central defender produced a hugely impressive display both with his defensive work and superb passing ability despite only having had a brief training session with his new team-mates.

“Laporte plays 45 minutes and plays like that. People say he is expensive - maybe he will prove to be cheap!” Pep added.

“Today, good players are so expensive. I said (to the board) ‘if you can do a Laporte deal, do it, if not, no worry.’ They said we can do it in the summer but we will try to do it now. It was easier because he had a buy-out clause.”

The only blot on the night was the fact that skipper David Silva was forced off with an injury to his hip midway through the first-half.

Pep added that it was too soon to tell if he would be fit to play at Burnley on Saturday.

“David took a tough, kick here in a painful area. I don’t know if he will be able to play in two days and a half because we play next at Saturday at 12 o’clock but we will see.”
