35Sublime Sane

With pace to burn, silky skills and the ability to produce moments of magic, Leroy Sane’s dazzling displays were a real highlight of City’s sensational 2017/18 campaign.

The left-winger lit up the Premier League with his mazy runs and fantastic finishes, and even earned the title of the league’s fastest ever player. In 32 league appearances, he bagged ten goals and created 15 assists – just one fewer than Playmaker of the Year Kevin De Bruyne.

One of Sane’s best performances of an impressive campaign arrived in the 3-1 triumph over Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium.

Sergio Aguero may have taken the plaudits with a perfect hat-trick but Sane was influential – at the heart of the Blues’ best attacking moves – and his role in Kun’s third goal was absolutely phenomenal.

Collecting the ball midway through the Magpies’ half, the German embarked on a driving run into the box, gliding past five Newcastle men en route.

The best was yet to come… Facing away from goal inside the box, Sane then checked back neatly to turn two defenders before nutmegging DeAndre Yedlin and crossing for Aguero to complete his treble.

It was a piece of individual brilliance worthy of clinching a victory.

36Excellent Ederson

The save of the season…

There aren’t many feelings better than emerging victorious in a Manchester derby.

Both City and United experienced that feeling last season – and the Blues had our shot-stopper to thank for the triumph at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola’s men lead 2-1, courtesy of goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi, and with time running out, the Reds piled on the pressure.

With eight minutes of normal time remaining, the hosts created a glorious chance to level as Anthony Martial crossed for Romelu Lukaku.

Just yards from goal, an equaliser looked certain but Ederson made himself big, managing to block the first-time shot with his face before jumping back up rapidly to thwart Juan Mata’s rebound. Eliaquim Mangala then cleared away.

It was a real heart-in-mouth moment but one of the most memorable of the season – and City hung on for derby delight.
