9 History at Napoli

Napoli were one of the form teams in Europe coming into this game having won all but one Serie A game before it. City had beaten them at the Etihad a couple of weeks before but on their own patch in the Stadio San Paolo this was to be a severe test for the Blues.

Boss Pep Guardiola’s men passed it to secure qualification to the UCL knock-out stages. It was a thrilling game from start to finish, with two sides intent on playing entertaining football going toe-to-toe. The highlight was of course Sergio Aguero’s record-breaking goal, but the whole match was fascinating and City became the first English side ever to beat Napoli on their own turf.

Silva spent the second half of last season taking trips back to be with his little boy and Guardiola said of the situation in January: “Family is the most important thing in life.”
