There may only have been three games during May but there was no shortage of drama and incident.
The month began with the club lifting the Premier League trophy at a sun-drenched Etihad Stadium and ended in the most dramatic fashion at Southampton as City created history by becoming Centurions. Here we review May game-by-game…
Sunday 6 May and the visit of Huddersfield Town had been a day every Blue had penned in the calendar following mid-April’s confirmation that City had clinched the title.
The Premier League trophy was to be presented to Pep Guardiola’s side immediately after the clash with the Terriers.
With the sun beaming down and a sell-out Etihad in celebratory mood, all seemed set fair but David Wagner’s side had other ideas.
Fighting for their Premier League lives, Huddersfield proved obstinate opponents despite the Blues dominating both possession and territory.
Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva both came closest to breaking the deadlock but in the end City had to settle for a point before the title party got under way.
Three days later, we hosted our final home game of the season against Brighton where the focus was all about club legend Yaya Toure who, after eight years’ magnificent service, played his final game for City.
And his colleagues ensured it was a night to remember as the Blues swept Chris Hughton’s side away in style, in the process creating yet more Premier League records.
With City donning their new 2018/19 home kit, the Etihad breakthrough arrived on 16 minutes when Leroy Sane’s inch-perfect ball found Danilo who raced clear before firing home a low drive.
However, the lead lasted just four minutes with Brighton staging a quickfire breakaway attack that saw Leonardo Ulloa head the visitors level.
City though simply regrouped and applied even more pressure which eventually yielded a second goal on 34 minutes - Sane again the provider for Bernardo Silva’s strike which also created a new Premier League-best tally of 104 goals.
And the champions sealed victory 18 minutes from time when Sane completed a hat-trick of assists and found Fernandinho who rifled home a low shot.
The victory took City to 97 points – yet another Premier League best – and within touch of the magical 100-point landmark.
After the final whistle all eyes were on Yaya who was afforded a rapturous ovation from every corner of the ground before his elder brother Kolo appeared as a surprise guest to present the midfield colossus with some special farewell gifts.
That just left a final day assignment away at Southampton to navigate and the Blues ensured they ended a magnificent campaign in quite unforgettable fashion.
On another sun-baked afternoon at St Mary’s Stadium, the match appeared to be heading for a goalless stalemate despite several chances at both ends.
But deep into injury time, and in a magnificent manner quite befitting of champions, City launched one last attacking raid.
Assist king Kevin De Bruyne was the architect once more, his superb long-range ball finding Gabriel Jesus and the young Brazilian demonstrated his composure by coolly lobbing the ball over Saints’ keeper Alex McCarthy to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the travelling Blues contingent.
It meant that City had become the first team in Premier League history to notch up 100 points in a campaign - a truly remarkable achievement by a remarkable team.
What a way to finish a never-to-be-forgotten season!
