Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and Nicolas Otamendi were on the scoresheet as 10 Manchester City players represented their country on Tuesday.

The latter netted in vain as Argentina fell to a 6-1 defeat against Spain, though De Bruyne and Jesus celebrated wins with Belgium and Brazil respectively.

The 20-year-old striker proved to be the match-winner as the Selecao went someway to banishing the painful memories of a 7-1 loss against Germany in the World Cup semi-final four years ago.

Jesus powered home a 37th minute header, condemning team-mates Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane to defeat with his ninth goal in 15 international appearances.

Gundogan and Sane both started for Germany as did Fernandinho for Brazil, while Ederson was an unused substitute.

In Brussels, De Bruyne was the star of the show as Belgium beat Saudi Arabia 4-0.

City’s No.17 had already teed up Romelu Lukaku and Michy Batshuayi when he swept home from the edge of the area to finish a move he started, while at the other end Vincent Kompany played the first 45 minutes as the Red Devils kept a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, despite arrowing a header beyond David De Gea, it was a night to forget for Otamendi and his Albiceleste colleagues.

The General, who also hit the post, struck with Spain already two goals ahead in Madrid, but it was not enough to produce a comeback as the Isco inspired Spaniards eased to victory.

At Wembley, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Kyle Walker all started for the second England game in succession as the Three Lions drew 1-1 with Italy.

Both Sterling and Walker completed the full 90 minutes, while Stones was withdrawn with 14 minutes remaining.

Earlier in the day, Oleks Zinchenko played 80 minutes in midfield for Ukraine, who beat Japan 2-1 in Liege, Belgium.
