Edin Dzeko will be glued to his TV this Sunday as he settles down to catch the Manchester derby.

Roma’s clash with Sampdoria starts a couple of hours before, so he may have to watch it on catch-up, but both he and team-mate Aleks Kolarov will be rooting for the Blues against the Reds.

Dzeko’s love for City has never dimmed – ditto Kolarov – and the Bosnian Diamond can’t think of derby day without remembering the Blues’ epic 6-1 win at Old Trafford seven years ago.

A 70th-minute sub for Mario Balotelli after Sergio Aguero had just put City 3-0 up, Dzeko scored two goals in three minutes as the Blues destroyed United during an unforgettable afternoon at Old Trafford.

“For the fans, beating QPR to win the title is probably the best game ever, but beating United 6-1 is probably the best we ever played and wouldn’t be far behind,” recalled Dzeko.

“It’s one of the best performances in City’s history and I’m just glad I was part of it all.

“To get two in the space of a few minutes was special – the first was with my knee, but the second was thanks to a pass from another world from the Magician, David Silva.

“Sometimes I watch the game again to relive it and it always brings a huge smile to my face.”

Dzeko, now in his fourth season in Serie A, has bagged 80 goals in 150 appearances for Roma to date.

But Blues’ fans remember his time with the Club fondly and still sing his name on match days.

The Bosnia striker, however, believes Sunday’s clash is hard to call due to the nature of the fixture.

“City will start as favourites, but derby games are strange and don’t always go to form,” he said.

“I remember last year when City were going for the title and went in 2-0 up at the break, but United came back and won it 3-2, so you have to be careful.

“You can’t underestimate United, even if they aren’t firing on all cylinders.

“If I can, I’ll be in front of the TV watching my City win, I hope.

“Both Aleks and I would love to come back to City one day – we were hoping it would be last year with Roma, but it didn’t pan out that way but who knows, maybe it will happen this season.

“I’m not there anymore, but City is still my club.”
