Aymeric Laporte believes that learning every day under Pep Guardiola is the best way to progress.

City are just one step away from qualifying for the Round of 16 of the Uefa Champions League, with a win or draw against upcoming opponents, Lyon, securing our place in the knockout stage.

Laporte has become a vital part of Guardiola’s squad since joining in January, and the defender has explained that continuing to learn under Pep ensures the Blues move towards targets.

“You learn day-by-day and I try to do that,” Laporte said in his pre-match press conference. “I have Pep’s confidence and that’s what matters.

“Learning ensures we meet our objectives.”

City missed out on a win earlier in the season when Lyon visited the Etihad and secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg.

Heading into the eagerly anticipated away game, the 24-year-old continued to explain how it was imperative for himself and his team mates to focus on themselves rather than their opponents.

“Pep wants us to focus on ourselves and about working on ourselves. We are always ready to work harder and do more,” he added.

“We are coming up against one of the toughest teams but we must again focus on ourselves and do the best we can.”
