It was a memorable night in Dublin for City youngster Matt Smith who was handed his first full start for Wales in their UEFA National League Group B4 encounter with the Republic of Ireland.
Smith, who is on a season-long loan at Dutch side FC Twente, played for 75 minutes and a superb free-kick by Harry Wilson earned the Welsh an impressive 1-0 win over Martin O’Neill’s Ireland.

The City winger played for 75 minutes in a high-quality clash at the Stade de France.
Toni Kroos had given the Germans a 14th minute lead from the penalty spot before Antoine Griezmann levelled on the hour. Atletico Madrid then earned all three points for the hosts by converting an 80th minute winner.
Oleksandr Zinchenko came on as a late substitute as Ukraine beat the Czech Republic 1-0 in Kiev in Group B1. Ruslan Malinovskiy’s 43rd minute goal, ultimately proving decisive.

Vincent Kompany was an unused substitute as Belgium drew 1-1 in Brussels in a friendly clash with the Netherlands.
Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria side missed out on early chance to seal qualification for next year’s African Cup of Nations finals, as the North African side went down 1-0 away in Benin.
Finally, Phil Foden came on off the bench as as second half substitute as England’s Under-21s rounded off their European Champions Under-21 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win away to Scotland.
