Formation

With no recognised right-back available following Danilo’s injury while on international duty with Brazil, we may have to wait until kick-off to see how the Blues adapt.

Fernandinho and John Stones are the obvious options, should the City play with four across the back, and given Gundogan’s absence, Fernandinho is more likely to retain his anchor role in midfield.

Or will Pep go with three central defenders and Benjamin Mendy plus a right-sided forward as attacking wing-backs?

So, either a 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 seem likely.

We’ll know soon enough but no obvious candidates for the right-back berth – at least on paper.

Raheem landmark – if he plays

Only Wayne Rooney, James Milner, Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Barry reached 200 Premier League games before their 24th birthday – Raheem Sterling will become the fifth if he comes on today.

The 23-year-old forward comes into the game on the back of a superb display for England for whom he scored his first goals for 27 matches in the 3-2 midweek win over Spain.

The 3’o’clock boys

City haven’t lost any of the last 33 Saturday Premier League three o’clock kick-offs – a lot of threes!

The Blues have won 29 and drawn four of those games, suggesting the champions have a liking for the traditional English football time slot.

Avoiding defeat today will post a new record in this somewhat obscure stat!

Facts and stats

City haven’t lost a home league game to Burnley for 55 years, with the last loss a 5-2 thrashing at Maine Road in March 1963.

The Clarets have beaten the Blues just once in all competitions – home and away – in 19 games, spanning 43 years.

City have won four, drawn three and lost just one of eight Premier League matches against Burnley.

Burnley haven’t been awarded a Premier League penalty for more than 18 months.

It’s 37 games since a last English manager won at the Etihad – Harry Redknapp’s Spurs achieved the feat in 2010 but since then, City have won 34 and drawn three games against manager from England.

Sergio Aguero needs two goals to reach the 150-goal Premier League landmark.
