Oleksandr Zinchenko says City are aiming for victory against Shakhtar on Tuesday evening.

Lyon travel to Hoffenheim as group leaders and the Blues still have to travel to France, so back-to-back wins over the Ukrainian champions would make qualification chances for the knockout stage far less complicated.

With Group F finely poised going into the third round of group games, the Blues know dropping more points would make the remaining three games even tougher.

“Yeah, of course we want to win,” said Zinchenko.

“It’s important for us, especially after the first game against Lyon. We are ready for tomorrow. We have prepared well for Shakhtar.

“We all know they are a good team from our games against them last season.

They’ve lost some players – Bernard and Darijo Srna – but we must be ready and prepare ourselves because they are a dangerous side, especially at home.

“For us, every competition is so important. Every single, game, we want to show our maximum and we’ll be doing that on Tuesday evening.”

Zinchenko spent five years with Shakhtar’s youth team before joining Ufa and then City.

He has nothing but good memories of his time there, and particularly the Under-19 squad.

“It was a great team,” he recalled. “I had a great coach. The time I spent in Shakhtar was one of the best times of my life.

“Would I celebrate if I scored? It’s a very good question. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!”
