Pep Guardiola has confirmed Benjamin Mendy is out of this weekend’s trip to Cardiff with a foot injury.

The French defender hasn’t played in City’s last two matches after damaging a bone in his foot and is yet to fully recover.

Guardiola also gave an update on Kevin De Bruyne, who suffered a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) lesion in his right knee in training last month.;

The boss says the Belgium midfielder is making good progress but will only return to action when he 100 per cent fit.

Mendy is Injured,” he said. “He has a problem with the bone in his foot.

“I spoke with the doctors [about Kevin] and he is telling me it’s going good and well but I don’t know.

“We will see. The important thing is when he comes back he is fit and can play the rest of the season.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola has expressed his delight at the news Sergio Aguero has extended his contract.

The Argentina striker has committed to the Club until 2021, which, if fulfilled, will see him clock up a decade at the Etihad.

Guardiola says Aguero, the Club’s greatest-ever goalscorer, didn’t need persuading to stay.

“I didn’t convince him, he decided himself,” Guardiola said. “So thank you to him for trusting in us.

“Players like him Vincent [Kompany], David[Silva] decide and they show every day in training session their commitment. I appreciate that a lot, so thank you and I am so happy he can stay 10 years in the club.”
