Benjamin Mendy believes the injury problems that have plagued his season are a thing of the past.

The French left-back returned to action on Saturday as Manchester City moved through to the FA Cup final by beating Brighton 1-0 at Wembley.

He acquitted himself well having not played since the 1-0 win away at Burton Albion in late January, particularly in the final third where he offered pace in wide areas.

Mendy’s return was a significant boost given City’s hectic schedule and the 24-year-old says he is fully fit and looking forward to what could be a hectic end to the season.

“I feel really fit and want to give everything for my team,” he said.

“I’ve missed a lot of games and much of the season, but my team mates are incredible, and we need to trust and believe it to go to the end and win trophies.

“The meniscus is not this injury, but when I come back sometimes the swelling stays, but now it’s good! We forget the past and we just want to be focussed on the future.

“It feels so good. I’m so happy. My team mates and the staff have helped me a lot.”

City’s win over Brighton keeps alive our hopes of an unprecedented Quadruple.

We will now play Watford in the final in May and have already lifted this season’s Carabao Cup.

And with City very much in the hunt for the Premier League and Champions League, we are just 12 positive results away from immortality.

Mendy says he was delighted to get through to the final and says the priority now is to rest and recover in time for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final game at Tottenham.

“We want all the trophies, so we tried to play good and give everything for the fans and that’s what we did,” he said.

“We’ve got a good rest now and we will see after! We will speak to the manager and follow the rules.”
