Sergio Aguero expressed his delight at ensuring Manchester City were not left ruing missed opportunities after he grabbed a crucial winner against Burnley.

The Argentine was the solitary scorer at Turf Moor, netting his 20th goal of the season to secure a vital three points after City had seen several chances go begging.

Bernardo and Aymeric Laporte both went close before the match-winning strike, which required the intervention of goal-line technology after Matthew Lowton volleyed it clear.

It was a goal which returned the reigning champions to the top of the Premier League and with a VAR decision recently going against City, Aguero was particularly pleased to be the beneficiary at Turf Moor.

“Today I was happy with the technology,” he beamed.

“I was so very happy for the win.

“I think it was over the line. I am very happy with the goal because in the first half we had a lot of chances, so it was important to win.”

As it so often has been, it was a moment very much about City’s No.10.

Collecting a cute pass from Bernardo, he prodded home from six-yards to become only the second player to net 20 Premier League goals in six different seasons.

But in a game which produced a cagey first half and with the tension growing as the wait to break the deadlock lengthened, Aguero was keen to praise the unwavering effort of his colleagues.

“When I scored I enjoyed the moment with my team-mates because they did a lot of work for the win today,” he added.

“Now we have one week now to prepare for the next game.”
