City became the first side in 10 years to win back-to-back titles, edging Liverpool by just a point in one of the most fiercely contested campaigns of all time.
It was an unprecedented tussle at the top, with Liverpool finishing on 97 points – a record number for a side ending the season as runners-up - and a massive 25 ahead of third-placed Chelsea.
The pre-eminence of City and Liverpool has led to suggestions those two would once again be way out in front, but Guardiola expects more challengers this time around.
Speaking immediately after City’s shootout win over Liverpool that saw us retain the Community Shield, Guardiola said: “I don’t think there will be two contenders to win the Premier League.
“United have signed Maguire. There will be many contenders this time.
“Liverpool are the Champions of Europe that’s why I give a lot of credit for our victory today.
“They are a top-class team. The difference was one penalty. It’s good to face them to see how well prepared we have to be to try and win the titles.”

The one downside of City’s win at Wembley was Leroy Sane’s first-half injury that saw him exit the game early.
The winger looked in some discomfort as he left the field 11 minutes in, holding his right knee and walking gingerly.
Guardiola says it’s too early for a detailed prognosis but hinted it may not rule Sane out for too long.
“First impression wasn’t good but I don’t know if it’s bad,” he said. “We will wait to see what the doctor says.
“I think he will be OK.”
