The Algerian saw his powerful low drive deflect off Caglar Soyuncu and into the net, which levelled the scores after Jamie Vardy netted an early opener to hand the visitors a surprise lead.
The winger’s goal sparked City into life, with Ilkay Gundogan’s penalty and Gabriel Jesus’s tap in sealing what Mahrez felt was a deserved victory.
“It was a bit strange at the beginning [playing against Leicester] but we did well,” he said.
“We made the difference before half-time and we managed to come back.
“In the first half we were very good and in the second half we kept the ball well and we’re happy with the win.”
The 28-year-old was a constant threat on City’s right flank, where he linked up well with the hugely impressive Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.
Few would have begrudged him a second goal, which he so nearly grabbed on several occasions in the second half.
A half-volley skidded just wide of Kasper Schmeichel’s left post before the Dane was at full stretch to keep out a sweetly struck curling effort.
Mahrez and De Bruyne’s performances were singled out after the game, with City’s No.27 expressing his satisfaction with the display.
“When the manager starts me, I try my best to help the team to win,” he continued.
“I’m happy to have scored today and to have helped the team to win.”
