Sergio Aguero will make his first start in more than a month in tonight’s game against Wolves at Molineux.

The striker, who has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances this season, hasn’t started a game since the 2-1 win over Chelsea on November 23.

Aguero’s return is one of two changes to the side that beat Leicester last time out, with Rodri also back in the starting XI in place of Ilkay Gundogan.

John Stones and David Silva aren’t fully fit and haven’t been risked, while Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane remain long-term injury victims.

Gabriel Jesus misses out through illness.

Victory tonight would see Pep Guardiola move onto 100 Premier League wins as City boss and set a new record for the fewest games needed to reach the landmark. He has won 99 of 132 matches.

City tactics

4-3-3 for City as Guardiola remains true to the formation that has delivered unprecedented success over the past two seasons.

Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi start together again at the heart of the back four, with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy in the full-back roles. Those two will be asked to push and supplement our attacks in wide areas.

Rodri comes back in and will sit just in front of the defence to offer additional protection. Bernardo Silva and the in-form Kevin De Bruyne will operate just ahead of him.

And in the forward area, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling will play in support of Sergio Aguero, who will lead the line.

Wolves’ pace on the break, which caused City so many problems in the return fixture, needs to be controlled.

Pep says…

“They’re always one of the toughest opponents. Nuno [Espirito Santo] is doing an incredible job.

“They are one of the toughest opponents away - and at home as well - because of the quality they have. They are incredibly well organised with pace up front, an incredibly difficult opponent.”

Stats

City have scored 50 goals in their 18 league matches this season That’s the fifth occasion a #PL side has netted 50+ goals before the halfway point of the campaign and we are responsible for all of them

City’s tally of 19 Premier League points away from home this season is bettered only by Liverpool.

We can record back-to-back clean sheets in away league games for the first time since April.

Victory would see City boss Pep Guardiola reach 100 Premier League wins and break the record for fewest games needed to reach the landmark. He has won 99 of 132 matches, and is set to overhaul Jose Mourinho, who registered his 100th win in his 142nd game.

Of Guardiola‘s 16 Premier League defeats, seven have come in the month of December.

City have conceded the opening goal in seven Premier League matches this season, only one short of their combined tally from 2017-18 and 2018-19.
