Pep Guardiola has shuffled his pack after the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea at the weekend, making five changes to his starting lineup for the visit of West Ham.

Danilo, Vincent Kompany, Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane all start, giving the side a fresh look after the gruelling 120 minutes of football at Wembley on Sunday. 

And Benjamin Mendy is on the bench, his first appearance in a matchday squad since the 1-0 win away at Burton Albion a month ago. 

Gabriel Jesus, John Stones and Fabian Delph haven’t quite recovered from their respective problems and miss out.

Fernandinho (abductor) and Aymeric Laporte (hamstring) join long-term absentee Claudio Bravo on the sidelines.

It’s the usual 4-3-3 for City this evening. 

In front of Ederson is a back four of Danilo on the right, Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left, with Vincent Kompany, who captains the side, and Nicolas Otamendi in the centre. 

Ilkay Gundogan is likely to operate in the defensive-midfield role usually occupied by Fernandinho, with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne just ahead of him providing guile. 

And there’s plenty of quality up top, with Mahrez on the right wing and Sane on the left supporting the prolific Sergio Aguero. 

“We won one competition and now we are in the Premier League again,” Guardiola said moments ago. “Two important games in three days.”

West Ham, of course, provide a real threat. They are perhaps the Premier League’s ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ side: brilliant on their day, somewhat disappointing on other occasions. 

In Felipe Anderson they have probably the best attacking player outside the Top Six sides, Samir Nasri is a player City fans know all about and Manuel Pellegrini, who spent three years at City, is a manager committed to attractive football. 

It should be a great occasion.

Aguero has ended on the winning side in each of the last 23 league games he has started at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 29 goals and assisting seven more.
