Leroy Sane believes teammate and close friend Raheem Sterling is approaching the best form of his career.

Sterling already has nine Premier League goals and six assists to his name this season and signed a new deal in November to keep him at the club until 2023.

The 24-year-old won November’s Premier League Player of the Month after scoring three goals in three games, and Sane believes the England forward’s fine form is also helping him to improve his own game.

“Of course, it’s always important if you have good people around you - good friends. You can trust them also and obviously, it’s very important for our team.

“He’s scored a lot of goals and helps us a lot in every way and he’s just a really good guy - a humble guy.

“He is also really hungry and motivated to improve in his own game - to achieve something: his own targets.

“This is what it’s like to push him to get better and if it goes like this every year, I think soon he can also be one of the best players.”

Sane and Sterling have a close-knit friendship and the pair have built-up a fruitful partnership on the pitch this season.

Sane currently tops the charts for City in terms of acquiring the most assists in the Premier League this season, whilst Sterling is the Blues’ top scorer at present.

The German spoke of Sterling’s composure in front of goal and commended the impact Mikel Arteta is having on the squad.

“I think you can see he’s taken [his chances[ well,” he added. “He uses his chances much more than last season and he scored already a lot of goals this season.

“It’s also the way everyone - the coaches and players - personally want to improve too.

“That’s what I said: he’s also training a lot. We have Mikel Arteta - a good coach, who is helping us out with the training: teaching us and helping us to say we can train better, do it better.

“We all use him and try to improve then.”
