Sergio Aguero will look to extend the Premier League record against Liverpool he set last season.

With his goal in the 5-0 Etihad victory. the Argentine had scored in all six home league meetings with the Reds ā€“ a 100% feat no other player had previously managed.

Another goal on Thursday evening will make it seven on the bounce. Though, curiously, he has never managed to score at Anfield, Aguero asserts he does not agonise over such details.

ā€œIā€™m not the type of guy who keeps a tally of that kind of thing,ā€ said Kun.

ā€œOf course, I want to score as much as I can to help the team win, and if thatā€™s the way it panned out against Liverpool so far, then I hope I can keep the streak going at the Etihad in this meeting - and dispel it when we next face them at Anfield.

ā€œFootball always gives a chance to even the score.ā€

City go into Thursdayā€™s clash seven points adrift of the league leaders, but Aguero isnā€™t surprised by Liverpoolā€™s form this campaign.

The City striker has plenty of respect for the Reds but insists he and his teammates are only focused on what happens to the Blues - not any other team.

ā€œThis season has shown, once more, that the Premier League is among the most competitive leagues in the world,ā€ said Aguero, who bagged his 249th career goal against Southampton on Sunday.

ā€œLiverpoolā€™s growth as a team can be tracked from a few years back. Their showing in the Champions League was a testament of that, and they are performing very well this Premier League season.

ā€œBut our focus should be on our own game. We are confident in our playing style and we believe itā€™s the most effective to lead us to victory.

ā€œThis is football after all though, and anything can happen, but we will play as we always play as it has served us so well.

ā€œThereā€™s no denying it is a huge game for both clubs. Direct clashes between leading teams have a major impact towards the end of the season.

ā€œDecember didnā€™t pan out the way we wanted it to and now weā€™ve got more ground to make up so yes, that makes the game even more important.

ā€œBut we are only in January and there are still plenty of Premier League games ahead of us and from the looks of it, there are three or four teams angling to win the title. Itā€™s going to come down to the wire.

ā€œOf course, we knew repeating last yearā€™s success wouldnā€™t be a simple task but we always aim for excellence.ā€
