Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany could be back for Manchester City when Wolves visit the Etihad on Monday.

Aguero, who has scored 14 goals in 22 appearances this season, has been suffering from illness since the win over Liverpool, a game that saw Kompany limp off with a muscle problem.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed they are making good progress and could be in contention for a place in the side in Monday’s crucial Premier League encounter.

“Sergio right after game against Liverpool he was sick,” Pep said. “He is a little bit better, today was his first training session.

“Vincent is recovering also well after the game with Liverpool. He’s getting better.

“Hope so [they are fit]. Right now, I don’t know.

“The rest are fit.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola has praised Wolves’ quality ahead of Monday night’s showdown.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side held City to a draw at Molineux earlier in the season and currently sit ninth in the Premier League table.

Guardiola says last season’s Carabao Cup game between the two sides offered all the evidence he needed to know how strong they are.

“We realised that last season in Carabao Cup, we saw how complicated they are,” he said.

“Strong, physical, good set pieces, strong on counter attack. When you are tired in the last minutes, they put on new players.

“They defend deep, switch play, control many areas. Good set piece - Neves. That’s why they are doing incredibly well in the Premier League.”
