Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling have all been named in the starting lineup for tonight’s game at Newcastle United.

Pep Guardiola has made five changes from the side that beat Burnley 5-0 in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, with David Silva and Aymeric Laporte also coming back in. 

Guardiola has named the midfield three of Fernandinho, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne in his starting lineup for the first time in the Premier League this season. They, of course, were central to our record-breaking title success last term.

Danilo continues at left-back after a string of solid displays, with Kyle Walker on the right. Laporte partners John Stones at the heart of City’s backline.

Vincent Kompany and Claudio Bravo remain injured, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Benjamin Mendy aren’t fully fit and have remined in Manchester.

City will play 4-3-3 and, as ever, will look to dominate possession and play on the front foot. 

Fernandinho will screen the back four, with Walker and Danilo charged with getting forward and providing width. 

Silva and De Bruyne have the freedom to roam, while Sterling and Sane will hug the touchlines and create space through the middle for Aguero. 

Expect a defensive Newcastle side. Rafa Benitez has traditionally set them up with men behind the ball in a bid to frustrate us.

Last season’s 1-0 win at St James’ Park was a prime example. City saw all of the ball but struggled to breakthrough a packed Newcastle defence.

Newcastle are winless in their last 22 Premier League games against Manchester City (D3, L19). It is both the Magpies’ longest winless run and City’s longest unbeaten streak against a particular top-flight opponent.

The Magpies’ last league win against City came on 24 September 2005, with Michael Owen scoring the only goal at St James’ Park.

Newcastle did, however, win a League Cup game at the Etihad Stadium in October 2014.

Manchester City have scored 29 goals in league and cup since they last conceded (in a 2-1 win against Liverpool on 3 January).

City have won their previous eight games in all competitions and have scored 28 unanswered goals in their last six matches.

They have claimed four successive Premier League victories, winning the last two by a 3-0 scoreline.

Victory would ensure Pep Guardiola breaks the record for most wins by a manager in their first 100 Premier League games. He is currently tied with Jose Mourinho, having won 73 of his 99 matches so far (D15, L11).

Kyle Walker could make the 250th Premier League appearance of his career.

Sergio Aguero has scored 14 goals in his 12 Premier League appearances against Newcastle - more than any player has scored against an opponent for a single club in the competition’s history.
