Season’s highlight

A hugely valued member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, the England international enjoyed a real purple period in the run-up to Christmas, producing a number of eye-catching individual displays.

He shone as the deep-lying midfield anchor in our 2-0 Carabao Cup fourth round victory over Fulham at the Etihad at the start of November.

Asked to deputise for the absent Fernandinho, Delph demonstrated great discipline and tactical awareness in helping City secure a ticket into the quarter-finals.

It also served as yet another demonstration of his flexibility and adaptability.

In the Premier League meanwhile, Delph produced an accomplished performance at left-back in an impressive 4-0 victory away at West Ham in late November.

Echoing his impact in our Centurions campaign of 2017/18, Delph was both tigerish in the tackle and a potent threat further forward where he helped supplement City’s attacking forays from the left flank to great effect.

Overview

The emergence of Oleks Zinchenko at left-back meant Delph’s opportunities were somewhat limited during 2018/19.

The Yorkshireman however, showed typical grit and determination whenever he was called upon and clocked up 20 appearances in all competitions.

Delph remains a popular member of the squad and continues to do a job in an unfamiliar position whenever required.

Like Danilo, he is a credit to the squad and is a positive influence in the dressing room even when he is not involved.

Pep Guardiola knows he is a player he can depend on when needed and Delph will look to have another productive campaign in 2019/20 where, hopefully, he will be able to add to the winner’s medal collection he is amassing at City
