There were many crucial headers, clearances and superb tackles along the way, but more than anything else he achieved in the colours of Manchester City, Vincent Kompany’s wonder strike against Leicester was the stuff of boyhood dreams.
It was the unexpected ferocity of the drive, the swerve and the distance that caught the world by surprise.
Sergio Aguero later told his captain he was shouting ‘No Vinnie, no!’ - but he took the shot anyway.
Thanks god he did, because it looked as though Leicester were about to derail the defending champions with the finish line in touching distance.

The Belgian skipper suffered a series of minor knocks throughout the campaign, but it was his desire and passion that Pep Guardiola turned to in the final strait of a thrilling Premier League campaign.
The 33-year-old turned back the clock as he led City to victory after victory, knowing full well that just one slip would be punished by Liverpool and the title would be lost.
Kompany inspired his team-mates by example on the run in, never allowing levels to drop and helping drag the side over the line on one or two occasions.
And when things seemed to be going against the Blues, it was Kompany who came to the fore.
His dramatic 70th minute winner against Leicester was worthy of winning any title race – and what a time to score his first goal for City from outside the box in 11 years of incredible service.
In what proved to be his final season with the Club, he lifted the FA Community Shield, Carabao Cup, Premier League trophy and his last act as captain was to lift the FA Cup at Wembley.
