Season’s highlight
Gabriel Jesus scored 10 goals in domestic cup competitions this season, and so it was fitting that he delivered a man-of-the-match display in our 6-0 FA Cup final victory over Watford.
It wasn’t just his two goals and a superb assist that marked him out as the best player on the pitch – his all-round game was exceptional; Watford simply couldn’t live with him.
It was a performance of strength, intelligence and maturity as City became the first men’s side in history to win every single major English honour in a single season.
A special mention, too, for the brilliant hat-trick he scored in the 6-0 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk back in November.
Overview
With Sergio Aguero playing the lion’s share of City’s matches, Jesus has had to be patient and take his chances where possible this season. He’s done that, scoring 21 goals in a campaign that saw many of his appearances come from the bench.
He started just eight Premier League games, coming on as a substitute 21 times. It’s difficult for a player to gain rhythm in circumstances such as those.
But there can be few who doubt Jesus’ professionalism and dedication. He continues to improve his game, despite his role. Far from being a penalty-box striker, he links play
“I’ve been working a lot with strength and conditioning,” he said in November. It’s noticeable and the improvements are there for all to see.
His FA Cup final display was a clear sign to everyone that there is so much more to come from the 22-year-old.
