Riyad Mahrez believes Manchester City’s vital 1-0 win away at Bournemouth represented 'the perfect afternoon' for the Blues.

The Algerian, who came on as substitute on the stroke of half-time for Kevin De Bruyne, scored the all-important winner 10 minutes into the second half.

The victory moved the Blues back to the top of the Premier League, two points ahead of Liverpool who play tomorrow away at Everton.

And Mahrez said it set the seal on a fine day’s work by Pep Guardiola’s side.

“We defended very well, they didn’t have too many chances, so it was the perfect afternoon and perfect game for us,” said Mahrez.

“We did a very good first half. The second was good as well but the most important thing was to avoid chances for them on the counter-attack.

“That’s what we did, and we are happy, and we’ll take it.

“We had to be very patient. We know we can always create chances – so we just need to be patient and move the ball quickly and then if we can find some space we can score.

“It’s always like this when we play away and you are winning by only one goal. You always think they can come back.

“Now Liverpool play tomorrow so we will see. There are still nine games left so there is a still long way to go.”
