Moments earlier Pep Guardiola’s side had completed a 6-0 demolition of Watford in the FA Cup final to become the first men’s team in English history to lift all four major trophies in a single season.

Bernardo did just that in the pitch side celebrations that followed, but in a squad driven by a thirst for success, he was already focusing on going one better next season.
“It doesn’t matter if we win 1-0 or 5-0, there’s always space for improvement,” he said.
“Next season we’ll try to get better and we’ll try to win even more titles, to control more of the game, to create more chances, to score more goals. We’ll work on that.”

In the most memorable of seasons, the concluding game proved unforgettable as City stunned the Hornets with a breath-taking display.
Bernardo, as he has been countless times this season, was at the heart of much of our best work, ending the game with three assists and afterwards he revelled in the significance of his side’s achievements.
“To win all the domestic competitions – the first time any team has done it – it’s amazing.
“What a team this is.
“It feels fantastic. It means you’re the best in your country by far because you’ve won all the competitions.
“I think everyone was amazing. Not just the players. The staff, the fans. They pushed us this far.
“Now it’s time to rest and to celebrate. We’ll enjoy the summer and then in pre-season we’ll start thinking about what happens next season and we’ll try to do even better.”
