On Sunday afternoon, Manchester City secured a 4-1win over Brighton and Hove Albion to finish the Premier League campaign on 98 points, which ensured that City were crowned 18/19 Premier League Champions on the final day of the season.
City have broken the record at 14 games for the longest winning streak leading up to a title victory in Premier League history. And, with 98 points, second only to the total the Club achieved the previous season, a new Premier League record has been set for the number of points accumulated over a two-season period at 198, in which 201goals have been scored.
Following the Premier League trophy presentation at the Amex Stadium, Manager Pep Guardiola and the team will return to Manchester, to celebrate with fans at a homecoming event and stage show, which will be hosted in front of the Colin Bell Stand at the Etihad Stadium.
The players will be live on stage with the Premier League trophy at approximately 10pm following their flight from Brighton to Manchester, with doors for the event open to fans from 8:30pm.
Earlier in the day, thousands of fans gathered to watch City clinch the title at a special screening held at the Etihad Stadium’s ‘City Square’.
Commenting on Manchester City’s Premier League title victory, Chief Executive Officer, Ferran Soriano said:
“To win back to back Premier League titles is an incredible achievement. If there is something more difficult than winning once, it is continuing to win again. The hard work and commitment from the team, in what has been the most challenging and competitive Premier League in living memory, has been exceptional.
“The support from our fans throughout the season has been unwavering too. Our Cityzens have been there, supporting the team, every time they were needed. It is therefore fitting that we will return home to Manchester this evening, to celebrate our second successive Premier League title together, with our team and our fans.”
