Raheem Sterling has been named as one of the nominees for the prestigious 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The City and England winger was today confirmed as one of the nominees for the award, with the ceremony itself being staged in Aberdeen next month.

Sterling has enjoyed a stellar year, both individually and collectively.

The 24-year old was an integral part of the City squad which made English history by winning the domestic quadruple of Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.

Also named as Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, Sterling has also won widespread praise for his public stance against racism.

Amongst the other nominees named so far are Rugby Union star Alun Wyn Jones, athlete Dina Asher-Smith, cricketer Ben Stokes and Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton with more due to be named throughout the day.
