David Silva says City need to remain calm and not panic in the weeks and months ahead.

The City skipper says the Blues have been there and done it before when it comes to chasing teams down in the title race and he believes it can happen again.

“We have had this kind of gap in other seasons, even with less games left, and we managed to win the championship in the end,” said Silva.

“We have less points than Liverpool and are nine points behind. We need to focus on ourselves, try to win every game and we will see what happens at the end of the season.

“I think we are in good form, in spite of some bad results. Liverpool are doing very well, that’s why there is a big gap between us. This is not the first time we have been so far off the top of the table.

“We need to remain calm and focus on our games. Against Liverpool last time out, it was difficult because we didn’t win, but tomorrow we have another chance and we need to be ready.”

On his fitness situation, Silva added: “I’m fine now. It was only a matter of a few days, I had some discomfort, but I’m fine.”

Silva will face former team-mate Frank Lampard for the first time as a manager on Saturday and the Blues’ playmaker says he expected Lampard to move into management.

“I could see a manager in him when he was here.,” he said. “He was an incredible player, a world-class player.

“The way he played, as well as his experience in football, now he transmits it to his players.

“He is showing it already, he is going to be a fantastic manager. I’m not surprised [how well he’s done so quickly].

“He has clear ideas and he is doing very well. What matters is that he has been given the opportunity and he’s making the most of it.”

Responding to whether he believed Chelsea are genuine title contenders, Silva added:“I think so Even though it’s Frank Lampard’s first season, they are playing really well.

“They are there in the title race. It will be a beautiful game. Two attacking teams that want to keep the ball and score goals.

“It’s going to be an entertaining game for the fans. Tammy Abraham is playing really well, like the rest of his team. They have players that they are doing really well and helping him.

“They have also a bunch of young players and, when the team plays well, it’s always easier for them to shine.”

And on his hopes for his final campaign as a City player, he said: “I’d like to win a trophy again. If it’s the Champions League, that would be incredible.

“If not, we are not greedy, we must be happy for everything we have achieved over the last few years. But I hope we can win something more.”
