Pep Guardiola says Raheem Sterling is fresh and raring to go as City’s season enters the crucial next few months.

Though retaining the Premier League title looks increasingly unlikely as things stand, City are still gunning for three more trophies with the chance to progress further in the FA Cup and Champions League during February and March.

With the Carabao Cup final to come, Pep knows he will need his players to be at the top of their game if more silverware is to be won.

But the suggestion that Raheem Sterling, who hasn’t found the net in his last seven games might need a break was met with short shrift by the City boss at his pre-Spurs press conference.

“Does he need a rest?” said Pep. “I don’t think so.

“He’s a guy who recovers quicker than anyone I have ever seen before - he is incredible and he could play every two days.

“The more he plays the better he feels - but all players feel like that.

“I don’t just judge Raheem for his stats. It’s important, but not the only important thing.

“Every player needs to play regularly or play more minutes to find their best form, but I cannot give it to them. 

“They need to train and to be ready for minutes we give them. And Raheem was.

“Unfortunately, he had a good defender in Wan-Bissaka against him in the last game, but he still created chances no other player could create for himself but couldn’t score.

“The most important thing is he was there, so I’m more than delighted with his performance against United.”
