Gabriel Jesus continued his excellent goalscoring record against Everton with a delightful double against the Toffees in City’s 2-1 New Year’s Day triumph.

The Brazilian struck twice in the second half to kick off the Champions’ 2020 on a winning note, bagging his sixth and seventh goals against the Merseyside outfit in five appearances – his best return against an opponent.

Although thrilled with his double, the forward admits the achievement is merely coincidental, as he looks to extend his impressive run of form.

“I can score with Everton!” Gabriel Jesus smiled. “It’s a coincidence of course.

“It can happen.I try every match to score. I’m very happy with the victory.

“I go to help the teammates. I am a strike so I have to score - I try every time.

“We have Sergio Aguero of course and he scores every game.

“I have to learn from him. When I go to the pitch, I have to score.

“I tried to score three but I got two and the victory is very good.

“It’s always good to start the year with a victory.

“We kept the ball, made passes, created chances… that’s always good.

“In the first half, we tried. They have a lot of good players; they can play.

“In the second half, we created and scored the chances.

“Of course (it was a little nervous at the end). They have quality players. They can try and win the game.

“We had to fight and be careful until the end.

“The guys played so well. Well done.”

Amidst a hectic run of festive fixtures, Gabriel Jesus admitted it has been difficult for the squad to cope, as City look to build momentum in the Premier League and progress in both domestic cups.

The Brazilian impressed during Aguero‘s enforced absence but suffered an illness to rule him out of selection for the defeat at Wolves.

Introduced from the bench late on in Sunday’s victory over Sheffield United, Gabriel Jesus asserts he feels fresh, providing a much-needed boost with Aguero also nearing a full return.

“I’m not tired,” he added. “I didn’t play against Wolves. I was sick and in the last game, a few minutes.

“I’m not tired but guys who have played a lot are tired

“This time is difficult. We have to rest and recover to play.”
