Pep Guardiola says it’s been a positive week for long-term injury absentees Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte.

The pair have missed the majority of the current campaign, with Sane absent since the Community Shield victory over Liverpool in August and Laporte sidelined after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus during our win over Brighton back in August.

Sane is back on the training field, albeit in isolation for the time being as he continues his recovery.

And Laporte has been involved in sessions with the rest of players since the start of the month.

Guardiola says they are progressing well – but isn’t putting a timescale on their return.

“Yes, positive,” Guardiola said. “Leroy is still not training with us but everything is going really well.

Aymeric made another week with us training.

“Everyone else is more or less fit, yeah.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola says he has spent the last two days preparing his players for the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He gave the squad two days off after last weekend’s 6-1 win at Villa Park, before returning to the CFA to begin an intensive period of planning for the visit of Roy Hodgson’s men.

And he believes we can take the work we have done this week into our game against Sheffield United on Tuesday, given the similarities in the approach of the two sides.

“We had one or two days off then we train and prepare for the game,” he said. “How to defend, how to attack them.

“It will be similar against Sheffield United because their shape is similar.

“West Ham game, after we have 15, 16 days.

“Review our game, what works, what doesn’t. No special differences.”
