Manchester City and England goalkeeper, David James, has been given a timely confidence boost by Club Manager Stuart Pearce.

Speaking today, Pearce backed City’s number one after this morning’s tabloid attacks, saying: “That’s always been the way with David. People for whatever reason pick on any one mistake that he makes and highlight that.

“All I’m concerned about is what he does for me on Saturday. He’ll come back in, train with us today, and hopefully he’ll do well for me. He’s not let me down yet.”

And the Manager expects James to recover from the media bruising and show everyone his worth - starting with Saturday’s trip to Birmingham: “The big players, and make no mistake he’s a big player for us, they all bounce back and bounce back stronger.

“I expect that from David, I’ve seen it before from him when he’s come under the spotlight for certain things, and I’m sure he’ll give us a big game on Saturday again.

“He’s a big enough man - he’ll deal with that. It’s not a problem for him.”
