Young striker Karl Bermingham is hoping that his month’s loan at Burnley will improve his chances of challenging for a first-team spot when he returns to City.

Dublin-born Bermingham, who scored in the pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday, had a spell with Lincoln City last season but he is keen to show that playing in the Championship will sharpen his game even further.

“I was told on Friday that Burnley had come in for me and would I like to go on loan?” says Karl. “With them being a Championship team, and if I get the chance to play there it will be a great experience. It’s a good standard of football and I can show the manager what I can do and come back.”

Once Robbie Fowler returns to full fitness there will be a handful of strikers for Stuart Pearce to choose from, but as the season progresses and the possibility of further injuries arises, Karl will be hopeful that his Turf Moor experience will give the management a nudge.

“Other people have gone out on loan and come back with a spring in their step and that’s what I hope to do.

“City has always been the number one aim, and everything’s built around getting into the first team, and hopefully this will help.”
