The constant speculation over the future of Shaun Wright-Phillips has not distracted the England winger's preparations for the new Premiership campaign.

The twenty-three year old has been the focus of almost daily rumour and speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

Recently Arsenal chief, Arsene Wenger declared his admiration for the Blues talisman but said he thought that Chelsea was the only club with the financial muscle to secure a deal.

Despite the national interest it has been business as usual for the City wideman since pre-season training started last Thursday.

And his future has not been discussed with manager Stuart Pearce who is full of admiration for the way his midfielder has conducted himself.

“The speculation has been a little bit tedious,” remarked the City chief.

“Lets be honest all the rumour in the newspapers would turn a lot of people’s heads.

“But Shaun’s reaction has been fantastic. He is incredible. He is the same player who has come in from the start of pre-season wanting to play for Manchester City.

“I genuinely believe that he loves the football club and all credit to him.

“He conducts himself, for a young man, in a fantastic way. He is very professional on the training ground.

“He will put as much in on a training pitch as he does on a match day. A few more Shaun Wright-Phillips in the game and we managers would be delighted.

“He has not come to me to talk over things. On the odd occasion that we have mentioned it to him he has seemed non-plussed about it.

“I said to him it can be distracting for him but it has not been a problem. He knows what he has to do, he knows his job and from what I have seen he has not been distracted by the speculation.”
