The 32 year-old midfielder played the first 45 minutes of the match, setting up Joey Barton for the goal that put City ahead after linking up with Bradley Wright-Phillips.
It was Trevor’s second pre-season appearance, having completed the first half of last Friday’s game against Tranmere.
These two games have been his first competitive outings since he suffered the serious knee injury in last October’s Carling Cup tie with Arsenal that immediately ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Speaking after the game, played in draining heat and humidity, Trevor was pleased with his display and generous in his praise for the backroom staff at City who have helped him in his recovery.
“I’m really glad to get another 45 minutes under my belt after Tranmere. I’m really looking forward to this season, and I can’t praise the work of Jim Webb and all the physio team enough.”
He was also aware that having seen his future in some jeopardy, he now has the chance to show City fans his true colours.
“It was touch-and-go as to whether I could play at this level ever again. I know that City fans have not seen me at my best yet. I could’nt get a run together in my first year, and then last season was disrupted by the knee injury.”
Trevor played in the right sided position that had until recently been filled by Shaun Wright-Phillips. There will be inevitably be speculation as to who will replace him there, but the manager feels that Trevor is one of several options.
“No-one’s really a ready-made replacement, but we’re lucky in that we have several players who can play in the position.”
